INJUNCTION For Immediate Release, Feb. 28, 2023: Contact: Alan Gottlieb (425) 454-7012 BELLEVUE, WA – A defendant in the Second Amendment Foundation’s challenge of New York’s gun control law has filed a brief with the federal appeals court supporting the plaintiffs’ application for a preliminary injunction, a move which SAF’s Alan Gottlieb welcomed as a pleasant surprise. The case is known as Hardaway, Jr. v. Nigrelli. Gottlieb, who is SAF founder and executive vice president, said the brief filed by Niagara County, N.Y. District Attorney Brian D. Seaman reinforces plaintiffs’ assertion that the gun control law, which prohibits concealed carry in broadly-defined “sensitive places” including places of worship, is unconstitutional.   It's Crossover Week at the State Legislature This week marks the halfway point in the 2023 legislative session. "Crossover" refers to the transfer of bills between the House of Representatives and the Senate. All House bills that have survived the committee process will now be considered by the Senate while all Senate bills that are still in play are headed to the House. Then the process starts all over again! Eighteen bills that AzCDL is tracking are still alive, for the complete list visit the  AzCDL Bill Tracking Page . Five bills of interest are being heard in the House Rules Committee this week. The Rules Committee is tasked with determining if each bill is "proper" in a legal sense and, therefore, does not accept comments or other input from the public. That means your RTS fingers get a week off! AzCDL would like to thank all of you who have responded to our RTS alerts so far this session and hope you will continue to fight with us to protect and extend

With about three weeks to go in the 2023 Legislative Session, none of the bills we are watching were heard in committee or were voted on in a floor session. However, that will change next week. SB44 , than ban on carrying open or concealed firearms with 100ft of a polling place while voting is underway, will be heard in the  House Government, Elections & Indian Affairs Committee  on Monday the 27th at 8:30am in Room 305 ( Zoom Link ). The bill passed the Senate side, so it is now starting to move on the House side. You can use  this link to send a pre-drafted email  to committee members opposing the bill. While we are still waiting on official confirmation, we have heard from several sources that the  Senate Judiciary Committee  will be hearing some of the anti-gun bills currently located in that committee on Monday. The bills currently in the committee waiting to be heard include  HB9 , the firearm owner criminal liability bill,  SB116 , the bill that bans anyone under the age o

On Friday the 17th, the  House Judiciary Committee  heard both  HB100 , the 14-day waiting period bill, and  HB101 , the ban on the sale of semiautomatic rifles and registration of currently owned ones. HB100 was passed out of the committee on a party-line vote of 6-4, it now heads to the House Floor. There was a second committee substitute for HB101, after the first one in House Consumer and Public Affairs. Public testimony was heard on the bill, but it wasn't voted on at Friday's meeting - so it is still in the House Judiciary Committee. The new version has yet to be made available to the public. On the Senate side,  SB44 , the ban of carrying firearms within 100ft of a polling place, both open and concealed, passed the Senate floor on a 28-9 vote. Two Republicans joined all Democrats present in voting for the bill.  Here is how your State Senator voted (or did not vote) . The bill now heads to the  House Government, Elections & Indian Affairs Committee . Right before t
