The word “carpetbagger” is a “historical term used by Southerners to describe opportunistic Northerners who came to the Southern states after the American Civil War, who were perceived to be exploiting the local populace for their own financial, political, and/or social gain.” Imagine our surprise when the word once again became relevant as Massachusetts leftists try to undermine YOUR selection of candidates here in North Carolina. But that is exactly what is happening as a leftist organization calling itself, ironically enough, “Free Speech for People,” based in Massachusetts, is suing to disqualify conservative Republican Congressman Madison Cawthorn from running for re-election.  Invoking reconstruction-era language from the Fourteenth Amendment designed to keep southern rebels out of Congress, these leftists are trying to brand Cawthorn as an “insurrectionist” for the grand crime of joining Donald Trump and others in addressing the crowd at the Ellipse on January 6, 2021, thereby disqualifying him from running for re-election. So did the wheelchair-bound Cawthorn storm the Capitol with rioters? Nope. Was he even at the Capitol when the incident took place? Nope. In truth, even among those who DID storm the Capitol, not one defendant from the Jan. 6 riot was charged – much less indicted – for “insurrection.” The leftists of “Free Speech for People” are branding Cawthorn an “insurrectionist” for having the audacity to express what he thought. And they aren’t done. They plan to do it to many more conservative candidates, undoubtedly for the purpose of securing a permanent lock on power by the left. Rest assured that if they can silence congressional candidates, they will eventually silence YOU. Specifics of the suit Although the Fourteenth Amendment’s “disqualification clause” states that no one who “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the U.S. may hold public office, there is absolutely zero evidence that Cawthorn participated in any such activity, making the legal grounds of the case laughable. Even more laughable was the Raleigh News & Observer headline that, “North Carolina voters dispute Cawthorn candidacy over Jan. 6.” In truth, the impetus behind the suit came from Massachusetts leftists trying to pass themselves off as “Free Speech for People.” Whatever leftists they recruited in North Carolina are on the suit solely because without them, the carpetbaggers would not have legal “standing” to bring suit. However laughable the case may be, however, all it takes to win is a leftist judge or, in our case, the left-controlled NC Supreme Court. Alert Writers needed. Click here for more information...
