AzCDL Legislative Update

The Arizona legislature remains focused on the state budget and has done little to advance the pro-rights bills AzCDL supports. This is not unusual late in the session and we remain hopeful that some or all of these bills will receive attention before Sine Die, when the legislature adjourns for the year.Your activism continues to make a difference, however. You are keeping these important bills in the forefront as our representatives approach the end of the session. All of the bills below are still listed on the AzCDL Action Center page. The Action Center includes pre-written e-mail messages that you can send to your Senator or Representatives as-is or you may customize them with your own comments.

HB 2166 would exempt firearms and firearms safety accessories from state and local transaction privilege (sales) taxes.HB 2316 would exempt CCW permit holders from prohibitions against carrying a concealed weapon in most public buildings.HB 2414 would remove the requirement for firearms to be unloaded while locked in a vehicle on school grounds.HB 2448 would require school districts and charter schools to provide students in grades 6 through 12 with one or more training sessions in firearms safety in an age-appropriate manner.HB 2473 would prohibit public entities from entering into a contract with a value of $100,000 or more with a company to acquire or dispose of services, supplies, information technology, or construction unless the contract includes a written certification that the company does not currently, and agrees for the duration of the contract that it will not, discriminate against a firearm entity.SB 1177 would require the Department of Public Safety to send a renewal reminder notice and renewal application to holders of concealed weapons permits at least 60 days before the expiration date of a permit.SB 1251 would expand the definition of armed robbery to include situations where the perpetrator takes, or attempts to take, a deadly weapon from others at the scene.

Prepared e-mails regarding all of these bills remain on the AzCDL Action Center. Please use the link below to send additional messages to your legislators.  You may send them as-is or customize them with your own comments.
