Piss Christ Vandalised.jpg
Arguably, Andres Serrano's PISS CHRIST (1987) is the most vandalised artwork in modern history.
For its 35th anniversary this year, the artwork is to be immortalised on the Ethereum blockchain to guard it from future destruction.  It will be shown during Miami Art Week between Nov 30 - Dec 3 as an NFT in collaboration with Christie's and a/political.The original 60x40 inch photograph was produced from a wooden crucifix placed in a tank of the artist’s urine. The dynamic NFT will transform three times a year to reflect three acts of vandalism inflicted on it.-The condemnation and destruction of the actual image on the Congressional Floor, Washington, USA, May 18, 1989.-Physical attack on artwork by two teenagers, one armed with a hammer in Melbourne’s National Gallery of Victoria, Australia, October 12, 1997.-Physical attack and destruction of Piss Christ with a hammer at The Collection Lambert in Avignon on April 17, 2011.Born and raised a Roman Catholic, Andres Serrano says “Piss Christ is a reflection of my work, not only as an artist, but as a Christian. I am glad that this artwork is now eternal, taking on a new life in the Metaverse.”###Notes to Editors:-Piss Christ NFT sale detailsPiss Christ (Original) is the first offering from an edition of five unique colour variants.Piss Christ (Original) is a dynamic video NFT with time trigger that runs on a yearly loop cycle. On the anniversaries of vandalism to the original work, the image will replicate the damage: May 18 (Senate Floor, Washington D.C.,1989); Oct 12 (National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, 1997) and April 17 (The Collection Lambert, Avignon, 2011).The NFT will be on sale via Christies 3.0.The sale is live Nov 29 with bidding open Nov 30 - Dec 7.
