More Anti-Gun Bills Filed for the 2023 Session

The 2023 New Mexico Legislative Session is just days away from getting started, and the anti-gun bills are pouring in. Today, HB72 was filed by Representative Caballero and Senator Lopez. The bill appears to be an attempt to target "bump stocks," but owning any firearm accessory "designed or functions to increase the rate of fire of a semiautomatic firearm" would constitute a felony. A Federal Appeals Court just ruled 13-3 against the ATF attempt to ban bump stocksYesterday, HB9 was filled by Representatives Hendon and Caballero. The bills seeks to target gun owners with additional liability if a minor commits a crime with their gun. These bills are in addition to HB50, which gun YouTuber Colion Noir covered in a video today. That bill would make it a felony to own a magazine that holds more than 9 rounds which would apply to most firearms with a detachable magazine. We now have several bills we are tracking, and we are just getting started. We are expecting to up to a dozen or more anti-gun bills to be filed this session. NMSSA will keep you appraised as to what is happening, but we need your help to get the word out. Please take the time to forward this email to your contacts who support our rights. HB50 would potentially turn the majority of gun owners in New Mexico into felons if it passes in its current state. We can't let that happen, so we need every gun owner in this state to know what is happening and speak out about it.
