Gun and Magazine Ban Bills Scheduled for Committee Hearings

 

In the coming days, a huge number of anti-2A bills, and one pro-2A bill, will be heard in committees. It is absolutely imperative that gun owners speak out on these bills. If you can make it to Santa Fe in-person to speak on the bills, we recommend it if you want to make sure you have the opportunity to testify before a committee. So far, committee chairs have been giving priority to people attending in-person over those joining virtually.House FloorHB9 - The firearm owner liability bill where you could be criminally charged for someone else's actions with your gun. You can't testify on the house floor, but you can contact your state representative today to ask them to oppose the bill.House Judiciary Committee, Friday February 3rd, 1:30pm Room 309 (Zoom Link)HB72 - This bill would make it a felony to purchase or possess a bump stock, binary trigger, or anything else that "increases the rate of fire of a semiautomatic firearm." You can use this link to send a pre-drafted letter to members of the committee.Senate Judiciary Committee, Friday February 3rd, 1:30pm Room 321 (Zoom Link)SB44 - This bill would ban carrying firearms within 100ft of a polling place while voting is taking place. The ban would apply to both open and concealed carry.Senate Heath and Public Affairs Committee, Monday February 6th, 1:30pm Room 311 (Zoom Link)SB171 - This bill would make it a felony to purchase or transfer a suppressor, AR pistol or AK pistol, NFA firearms, incendiary ammunition or "coated" ammunition.House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee, Tuesday February 7th, 1:30pm Room 317 ( Zoom Link)HB50 - This bill would make it a felony to possess or purchase a magazine that holds more than 9 rounds. There is no grandfather clause, you would have to turn in your magazines or go to jail. You can use this link to send a pre-drafted letter to members of the committee.HB100 - This bill would impose a 14 day waiting period to purchase a gun.
