NMSSA Legislative Alert 2/28/23

Today, the Governor held a press conference to promote her anti-gun and anti-freedom agenda. But her displeasure at the tabling of SB171 yesterday was noticeable, so she is doubling down on pushing for her slate of anti-gun bills. As a result, two bills were scheduled late today for hearings tomorrow.First, HB9, the bill imposing criminal penalties on a gun owner if a third-party minor uses their gun to commit a crime or injure someone, will be heard in the Senate Finance Committee tomorrow. The meeting starts at 9:30am in Room 322 (Zoom Link). To provide written testimony to the committee, you can send it to: SFC.Zoom@nmlegis.govSecond, SB116, the bill banning the purchase or possession of semiautomatic firearms by anyone under 21 will be heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee tomorrow. The bill would force someone currently under 21 to sell or give away their semiautomatic firearms before the law goes into effect. The meeting starts at 1:30pm or 1/2 hour after the floor session concludes, whichever is later, in Room 321 (Zoom Link). To provide written testimony to the committee, you can send it to: SJC.Zoom@nmlegis.gov
